Ponsonby, John (1713–87), politician, was born on 29 March 1713, the second son of Brabazon Ponsonby (qv) (1679–1758), 2nd Viscount Duncannon and 1st earl of Bessborough, and Sarah Colvill (née Margetson; d. 1733). He was admitted to TCD on 6 April 1730, but there is no evidence that he graduated.

John Ponsonby, PC (Ire) (29 March 1713 – 16 August 1787) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Biography [ edit ] Ponsonby was the second son of Brabazon Ponsonby , who was created the Earl of Bessborough in 1739, and his first wife, Sarah Margetson Colvill.
Born on 2 Apr 1874 in Torphichen, West Lothian, Scotland son of Major John Ponsonby Cox (Durham Light Inf.) and Emily Eliza (Chalmer) Cox. Educated at Haileybury College 1887-91. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant from the militia on 4 Dec 1895, joined his Regiment in India and was promoted Lieutenant on 1 Dec 1897 and Captain 3 Jul 1901.
John Ponsonby (1608–1678) was a colonel in Oliver Cromwell's army during the Irish Confederate Wars, a member of parliament for two different Irish counties following the Parliamentarian's victory and a significant landowner granted confiscated properties in Counties Donegal, Kilkenny and Limerick.
On 30 April 1861, Ponsonby married Hon. Mary Elizabeth Bulteel, Maid of Honour to Queen Victoria and a daughter of John Crocker Bulteel (1793–1843) MP. The couple had five children: Alberta Victoria Ponsonby (6 May 1862 – 15 October 1945) Magdalen Ponsonby (24 June 1864 – 1 July 1934) John Ponsonby (25 March 1866 – 26 March 1952)
