Henry Ireton married Bridget Cromwell (pictured), daughter of Oliver Cromwell, during the Siege of Oxford Ireton was at the siege of Bristol in September 1645, and took part in the subsequent campaign that succeeded in overthrowing the royal cause.

Fleetwood's second wife Bridget Cromwell, widow of Henry Ireton and daughter of Oliver Cromwell. In 1652 he married Cromwell’s daughter, Bridget, widow of Henry Ireton, and became commander-in-chief of the Parliamentarian forces in Ireland, to which title that of Lord Deputy of Ireland was added.
