Admiral of the Fleet is a five-star naval officer rank and the highest rank of the Royal Navy, formally established in 1688. The five-star NATO rank code is OF-10, equivalent to a field marshal in the British Army or a Marshal of the Royal Air Force.

In 1891 the admiral of the fleet changed to a crown above two crossed batons within a wreath, similar to the badge of a field marshal. Also in 1891 shoulder-straps were introduced for use on white uniforms and on the greatcoat, and more recently in "shirt sleeve order".
Le grade d’admiral of the fleet en français : « amiral de la flotte » est le plus haut grade de la Royal Navy, la marine militaire du Royaume-Uni. Il équivaut à un grade OTAN de niveau 10. Il est appelé autrefois Admiral of the Red, en rapport avec le Red Ensign que son navire arborait.
