Sandra Moore Faber (born December 28, 1944) is an American astrophysicist known for her research on the evolution of galaxies. She is the University Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and works at the Lick Observatory.
Sandra Faber’s research focuses on the formation and evolution of galaxies and the evolution of structure in the universe. She utilizes ground-based optical data obtained with the Lick 3-meter and Keck 10-meter telescopes; she also has several projects on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST).

“Sandy” Faber was born in Boston but completed high school in Pittsburgh. She earned her bachelor's degree in physics at Swarthmore College in 1966 and her Ph.D. in astronomy at Harvard University in 1972.
From creating one of the first comprehensive models of how the universe formed, to her work suggesting there is a massive black hole at the center of all galaxies, Sandra Faber has led a revolution in understanding the structure of the universe.
