Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir John Cotesworth Slessor, GCB, DSO, MC (3 June 1897 – 12 July 1979) was a senior commander in the Royal Air Force (RAF), serving as Chief of the Air Staff from 1950 to 1952.

In the pantheon of air power pioneers from the dawn of military aviation to the advent of the jet age nearly four decades later, Marshal of the Royal Air Force (RAF) Sir John Slessor never gained the stature and name recognition of such earlier air warfare, Joint Force Quarterly 107.
Yet, Slessor was widely respected in the RAF before, during and after World War II. In 1950 he was named Chief of the Air Staff and promoted to five-star rank. Quite obviously, his outspoken advocacy of tactical aviation earlier had not hindered his career.
