Carl Christian von Weizsäcker is a renowned economist and a former professor at several German universities. He is a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods, where he works on welfare economics, capital theory, history of economics, euro crisis, climate policy and social market economy.

Carl Christian von Weizsäcker (born in Berlin on January 28, 1938) is a German economist who currently works as a senior research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods (MPI-EG), having emerited from the University of Cologne in 2003.
Carl Christian von Weizsäcker received his PhD in 1961 from the University of Basel for a dissertation in which he showed that the optimal rate of interest is equal to the growth rate. Edmund Phelps published the same result also in 1961 and called it the “Golden Rule of Accumulation.”
