John Warner Backus (Filadélfia, 3 de dezembro de 1924 — Ashland, 17 de março de 2007) [1] foi um cientista da computação estadunidense. Conhecido por criar a primeira linguagem de programação de alto nível - o Fortran - a notação BNF e o conceito de programação em nível de funções.
