Louis Vigée (2 February 1715 – 9 May 1767) was a French portraitist, fan painter, artist in pastels and a member of the Académie de Saint-Luc. Louis Vigée, Portrait of a young widowed woman. In 1750, he married Jeanne Vigeé (1728–1800).

Her father, Louis Vigée, was a pastelist and member of the artists’ guild, the Académie de Saint-Luc, while her mother, Jeanne Maissin, was a hairdresser. Élisabeth Louise spent her early childhood in the country and then attended a residential convent school.
Vigée Le Brun was the most important woman artist of her era and one of the most singular of any period. She was the daughter of a painter but largely self-taught.
