Muitos não sabem, mas o termo “meme” surgiu muito antes da internet. Na verdade, quem cunhou o termo foi Richard Dawkins, ainda na década de 1970, em seu livro O Gene Egoísta. O etólogo e biólogo evolutivo se utiliza do termo para fazer uma analogia ao gene em um dos capítulos do seu livro.
