It's ironic because no one really did the albums with so many different producers until Illmatic. Before that it was mostly one producer/one album, or at most 2 or 3 producers. After Illmatic dropped, everyone tried to have their own super lineup, but of course Preem, LP, Q-Tip, Pete Rock, and L.E.S. is tough to beat.
