25 de mar. de 2023 · Alphabet explained in English sounds [edit | edit source] The German alphabet contains 26 Letters, as well as four more letters (but for some reason they are not part of the regular alphabet). I heavily advice you to listen to the sounds in YouTube videos. It's almost impossible to describe them properly. You must get a sense for it yourself.

U-umlaut. A glyph, U with umlaut, appears in the German alphabet. It represents the umlauted form of u, which results in [yː] when long and [ʏ] when short. The letter is collated together with U, or as UE. In languages that have adopted German names or spellings, such as Swedish, the letter also occurs.
In German language it is common to replace ö with oe, if ö isn't available (e.g. on old typewriters). Same with ä and ae, ü and ue, and ß and ss. Especially in personal names those spelling variants are usual (a frequent last name is Schröder, but a lot of people are spelled Schroeder. It is pronounced equally).
Sütterlin is based on older German handwriting, which is a handwriting form of the Blackletter scripts such as Fraktur or Schwabacher, the German print scripts which were used during the same time. It includes the long s (ſ), as well as several standard ligatures such as ff (f-f), ſt (ſ-t), st (s-t), and ß (ſ-z or ſ-s).
