Há 1 dia · Andries Pretorius, a great influence on the young Kruger. Britain annexed the Voortrekkers' short-lived Natalia Republic in 1843 as the Colony of Natal. Pretorius briefly led Boer resistance to this, but before long most of the Boers in Natal had trekked back north-west to the area around the Orange and Vaal rivers.

Há 3 dias · On 16 December 1838, the Voortrekkers under the command of Andries Pretorius confronted about 10,000 Zulus at the prepared positions. The Boers had three injuries without any fatalities. Due to the blood of 3,000 slain Zulus that stained the Ncome River , the conflict afterwards became known as the Battle of Blood River .

His argument was that the testimony of Andries Pretorius and his secretary Jan Bantjes held much more value than that of Sarel Cilliers, who had recorded his memories thirty years later on his deathbed. It’s not a topic that today would attract more than a handful of listeners.
