17 de abr. de 2015 · Winston Churchill first visited the island of Madeira on 17 October 1899. He was sailing on the Dunottar Castle to South Africa as a newspaper correspondent covering the Boer War. Also on board was the Army Commander-in-Chief, Sir Redvers Buller.

2 de mar. de 2022 · Winston Churchill, the well-known British Prime Minister during World War II, spent 12 days vacationing in Madeira, in January of 1950, and left its imprint in the region’s tourism. He arrived at the island on 1st January, 1950 aboard the Durban Castle ship.
The ship Durban Castle enters, at dusk, in the bay of Funchal, capital of the Archipelago of Madeira. On board is Winston Churchill, former British Prime Minister, hailed as a Second World War hero and central figure in the Allied countries' victory against Hitler.
28 de jul. de 2021 · Essa visita ilustre atraiu muitos ingleses durante as décadas de 50 e 60. Churchill chegou à Madeira a bordo do paquete Durban Castle com a sua “comitiva”. O britânico até provocou algo inédito na Union Castle Line, atrasou a partida do paquete em vinte minutos no dia 30 de dezembro de 1949.
Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill esteve na Madeira, acompanhado pela sua esposa, Mrs. Clementine Hozier Churchill, pelo coronel W. Deakin e por dois secretários. Ficou hospedado no Reid's Palace Hotel (atual Belmond Reid's Palace), onde passou grande parte do tempo enquanto permaneceu na ilha.
