The couple had 16 children but only five survived infancy: Lawrence's brother Andrew became a clergyman; William had a career in the army; sisters Lucy and Anne married a solicitor and a clergyman (Lawrence's nephews included Andrew Bloxam).
Dans le roman de Jules Verne Les Enfants du capitaine Grant, l'auteur commet un anachronisme en faisant offrir à Thalcave, en 1864, un portait peint par Lawrence de ses personnages Mr et Mrs Glenarvan. Lawrence étant mort en 1830, Glenarvan ayant 32 ans et son épouse, 22, le tableau est ainsi une invraisemblance 6 .

A child prodigy, he was born in Bristol and began drawing in Devizes, where his father was an innkeeper at the Bear Hotel in the Market Square.
