Sucker Punch (Japanese: ふいうち, Hepburn: Surprise Attack) is a Dark-type move introduced in Generation IV.

    In battle

Sucker Punch deals damage to the target. Due to having a +1 priority, Sucker Punch will always go first unless another Pokémon uses a higher priority move or outspeeds the user using the same type of priority. It will fail, however, if the target is not readying a damage-dealing attack. In a Double Battle, Sucker Punch can target any adjacent Pokémon. As of Generation V, Sucker Punch can be executed if Me First is used, despite being a status move. Sucker Punch's base power is no longer 80 as of Generation VII. In the Mystery Dungeon series, the move's range extends two steps in front of the user.

•Despite its name, Sucker Punch is not a punching move. The term "sucker punch" refers to an unexpected or cheap shot at an opponent, akin to its Japanese name, which translates to "surprise attack". Thus, many Pokémon that do not possess arms can learn this move, and its base power is not increased by the Iron Fist ability.
