La colonización española en el Golfo de Guinea. En 1668, España y Portugal llegan a un acuerdo de Paz. Este acuerdo se produce en el contexto de la rebelión de Portugal a favor de la independencia del Reino de España, pues estos estuvieron unidos desde 1580.
En esta contribución se trata el estatus del español de Guinea Ecuatorial en el conjunto de las variedades de la lengua española. Partiendo de investigaciones y publicaciones previas, en los primeros apartados se resumen posibles razones que pueden explicar el amplio desconocimiento y las valoraciones negativas del español de Guinea Ecuatorial en el mundo hispanohablante.

Spanish Guinea (Spanish: Guinea Española) or Spanish Cameroons (Spanish: Camerún Español) was a set of insular and continental territories controlled by Spain from 1778 in the Gulf of Guinea and on the Bight of Bonny, in Central Africa. It gained independence in 1968 as Equatorial Guinea.
