Tornou-se uma pregadora pentecostal, ativa abolicionista e defensora dos direitos das mulheres. Em 1843 mudou seu nome para Sojourner Truth (Peregrina da Verdade). Na ocasião do discurso já era uma pessoa notória e tinha 54 anos.
Em 29 de maio de 1851, Sojourner Truth (1797-1883), mulher negra feminista, abolicionista e defensora dos direitos das mulheres, proferiu um impactante discurso na Convenção pelos Direitos das Mulheres em Akron, Ohio, nos Estados Unidos.
Sojourner Truth was an African American women's rights activist. Read her famous speech, Ain't I a Woman, which she delivered without preparation in 1851.
