2 de fev. de 2022 · Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658) was an accomplished cavalry commander, then head of Parliament's New Model Army, and finally Lord Protector of England, Scotland, and Ireland. The latter title was awarded to Cromwell for life after the bloody conclusion of the English Civil Wars (1642-1651) and the execution of King Charles I of England (r. 1625-1649).
When Robert Cromwell was born in 1560, in Huntingdonshire, England, his father, Sir Henry Cromwell, was 25 and his mother, Lady Joan Warren, was 25. Robert Cromwell (d 1617) was one of the younger sons of Sir Henry; he married Elizabeth, daughter of William Steward (d 1594). Robert Cromwell and Elizabeth had ten children (three sons and seven daughters). Their eldest son was called Henry, presumably in honour of Robert’s own father, but he died soon after birth in 1595.
