Richard Cromwell was the lord protector of England from September 1658 to May 1659. The eldest surviving son of Oliver Cromwell and Elizabeth Bourchier, Richard failed in his attempt to carry on his father’s role as leader of the Commonwealth. He served in the Parliamentary army in 1647 and 1648.
Richard Cromwell (born LeRoy Melvin Radabaugh; January 8, 1910 – October 11, 1960) also known as Roy Radabaugh, was an American actor. His career was at its pinnacle with his work in Jezebel (1938) with Bette Davis and Henry Fonda and again with Fonda in John Ford's Young Mr. Lincoln (1939).

Richard was born LeRoy Melvin Radabaugh (nicknamed Roy) in Long Beach, California on January 8, 1910, he was the second of five children to Ralph and Fay Radabaugh. His father was a victim of the 1918 Spanish influenza epidemic.
Accumulated debt worsened by the Spanish War could not be tackled because the main cause was expenditure on the army and navy. Even more fatal was the revival of radical political activism in the army.
