Richard Colley Wesley, 1st Marquess Wellesley, KG, PC, PC (Ire) (20 June 1760 – 26 September 1842), styled Viscount Wellesley from birth until 1781 and known as The Earl of Mornington from 1781 until 1799, was an Anglo-Irish politician and colonial administrator.
Edit. Richard Colley Wellesley played a vital role in the consolidation of British rule in India during the Regency. In 1793 he became a commissioner of the Board of Control for India and in 1797 was appointed Governor-General of India. Wellesley pursued an aggressive policy of expansion, partly in order to reduce the French presence.
