"The Importance of Being Idle" is a song by English rock band Oasis. It was released on 22 August 2005 in the UK as the second single from their sixth studio album, Don't Believe the Truth (2005), written, produced, and sung by lead guitarist Noel Gallagher.
In 2005, Ifans made a guest appearance for the rock band Oasis in the video for their single "The Importance of Being Idle" (where he mimed to Noel Gallagher's vocals), for which he accepted their award for Video of the Year at the 2006 NME Awards.
Rhys Ifans was for a short while the lead singer of Welsh band Super Furry Animals before they achieved chart success. He has been in the movies Notting Hill (1999), Little Nicky (2000) and Vanity Fare (2004). The was Oasis' second consecutive #1 single in the UK, after "Lyla."
In reality, the homage is given to the classic "Billy Liar" (1963) starring Tom Courtenay and Julie Christie, but instead of them we have Rhys Ifans as Billy and Oasis band members in small roles. The short film recreates some scenes and uses of the device of having the characters working as undertakers.
