All of our Officer training takes place at RAF Cranwell, a thriving RAF station in the heart of Lincolnshire, with a long and distinguished history. Get to know a little more about what it’s really like to complete Officer training at RAF Cranwell.
The RAR has its headquarters at RAF Cranwell and is made up of 7 organisations: The Defence SERE Training Organisation – based at RAF St Mawgan; Aircrew SERE Training Centre – based at RAF Cranwell; The Defence Fire Training Unit – based within the Fire Service College at Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire
The Royal Air Force College ( RAFC) is the Royal Air Force academy which provides initial training to all RAF personnel who are preparing to become commissioned officers. The College also provides initial training to aircrew cadets and is responsible for all RAF recruiting along with officer and aircrew selection.

Initial training. This will cover topics such as living and working in the RAF, our history and culture, weapon handling, and survival techniques. Requirements. The minimum age to apply is 17-and-a-half years old. The maximum age on entry to Direct Entry Pilot is age 23, Phase One training at RAF Cranwell must be started before your 24th birthday. To accommodate the process, candidates are to submit an application before their 23rd birthday.
