History. Prior to 1969, the National League champion (the "pennant winner") was determined by the best win–loss record at the end of the regular season. There were four ad hoc three-game playoff series due to ties under this formulation (in 1946, 1951, 1959, and 1962).

19 de out. de 2020 · Postseason History: League Championship Series 1969 : The first major change to MLB's postseason structure, the best-of-five League Championship Series was established after the AL and NL each split into two divisions and pitted the respective leagues' East and West winners.
NL pennants won by franchise. The 19th century Baltimore Orioles team won three National League pennants, one of three defunct teams to have won the league. The Detroit Wolverines won their only pennant in 1887, followed by a victory in the World's Championship Series.

The 2021 National League Championship Series was the best-of-seven series in Major League Baseball (MLB) between the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers, for the National League pennant and the right to play in the 2021 World Series. The Braves defeated the Dodgers in six games to advance to their first World Series since 1999.
