As we've established FNAF 3's phantoms are spurred on by Springtrap and his memory which would mean that he was a FNAF 2 gaurd and Mike Schmidt in FNAF 1. William interacted with the Fnaf 1 and 2 animatronics in minigames (Follow Me, Save Them), he would know what they look like regardless of whether or not he was Fritz and Mike.
