is John Byrn's Man of Steel any good? to clarify, I've heard several folks that hold it in high regard (including the owner of my lcs) but I recently saw some Byrn-hating comments. they were specifically talking about how he disrespected previously established continuity in order to tell his stories.

It does seem like a lot of the ideas that Byrne, Carlin, Wolfman, et al. came up with for Superman’s origin were pretty good, and they’ve stuck around despite three reboots/retellings since. Read from here right up to rebirth, which was ultimately the ending of this version of Supes.
