Lord Uxbridge portrayed by Henry Edridge in 1808, before the loss of his leg. Lord Uxbridge's leg was shattered, probably by a piece of case shot, at the Battle of Waterloo and removed by a surgeon. The amputated right limb became a tourist attraction in the village of Waterloo, Belgium, where it had been removed and interred.
Henry William Paget, 1st Marquess of Anglesey KG, GCB, GCH, PC (17 May 1768 – 29 April 1854), styled Lord Paget between 1784 and 1812 and known as the Earl of Uxbridge between 1812 and 1815, was a British Army officer and politician.

Uxbridge became Lord Lieutenant of Anglesey in 1782. On 19 May 1784, he was created Earl of Uxbridge , in the County of Middlesex. He was also Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire between 1801 and 1812, Constable of Caernarfon Castle , Ranger of the Forest of Snowdon , Steward of Bardney, and Vice-Admiral of North Wales .

During the battle, Uxbridge’s right leg was badly wounded by a French cannonball and had to be amputated – which was done without anesthetic.
