Lady Georgiana Lennox, known to her close friends as Georgy, was the third daughter of Charles Lennox, 4th Duke of Richmond, and his wife, Lady Charlotte Gordon. As well as her relationship with Wellington, Georgy’s other claim to fame is that her mother, the Duchess of Richmond, held a celebrated ball in Brussels on the eve of Waterloo.

This biography of the hitherto long forgotten Georgiana Lennox, later Baroness de Ros, offers an unusual perspective on someone much more famous: Arthur, Duke of Wellington, the hero of Waterloo. The two were, remarkably, steadfast friends until Wellington’s death despite a 26-year age gap and a mutual but unrealised romantic attraction (it matured into a firm friendship).

Georgiana Carolina Fox, 1st Baroness Holland, of Holland (27 March 1723 – 24 July 1774), known as Lady Caroline Lennox before 1744 and as Lady Caroline Fox from 1744 to 1762, was the eldest of the Lennox sisters.
She and her husband later brought a successful libel action against the St. James Chronicle for suggesting Lady Frances and Wellington had an affair. Wellington also developed his friendship with Georgiana Lennox, daughter of the Duke of Richmond. After defeating Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815, Wellington returned to Paris.
