It is not clear whether Henry VI had known of the existence of his half-brothers until his mother told him while she was dying in Bermondsey Abbey. It was after her death that Henry would begin to care for them and eventually raise them to the peerage by giving both brothers earldoms.

Jasper Tudor, duke of Bedford (born c. 1430—died December 21/26, 1495) was the leader of the Lancastrians in Wales, uncle and guardian of Henry, earl of Richmond, afterward Henry VII of England. The second son of Owen Tudor, founder of the family’s fortunes, he was knighted in 1449 and created earl of Pembroke about 1452.

Henry Tudor landed at Milford Haven in South Wales on the 7th August 1485, accompanied by his uncle Jasper, a few die-hard Lancastrian lords and about 2,000 French mercenaries. He defeated Richard III in battle at Bosworth Field and ascended the throne as Henry VII, the first king of the new Tudor dynasty.
