2 de mar. de 2014 · Boys as young as five were taught at Eton in the early days. The first proper boarding House, Jourdelay’s, was built in 1722 to accommodate the growing number of Oppidans. 40 years later, there were 13 Houses, largely run by teachers, known at Eton as Masters.

In 1440 Henry VI chose Eton as the site of his foundation for 'twenty-five poor and indigent scholars' and with this date a new era in its history opened. The parish became at once a centre of activity, the building of the new college very sensibly affecting the whole neighbourhood.

Henry VI, the physically weak and sick son of the hero of Agincourt Henry V, founded the college in October, 1440. The school has just passed its 570 th anniversary.
