Otherwise, you can catch local Lothian bus services to the Mound or George IV Bridge and walk a few minutes from there. Lothian bus services 8, 23, 27 and 41 stop at the Mound.

But James IV had little time to enjoy his new addition to the castle. The king was killed at the disastrous Battle of Flodden in 1513, fighting the forces of King Henry VIII of England – his brother-in-law.
