In 1863 Christian IX succeeded the childless Frederik VII as king, and was the first monarch from the House of Glücksburg line of The Royal Family. In 1842 he married Princess Louise of Hesse-Kassel, with whom he had six children, of which four later ascended European thrones.

Cristiano IX (Eslésvico, 8 de abril de 1818 – Copenhague, 29 de janeiro de 1906), nascido príncipe Cristiano de Eslésvico-Holsácia-Sonderburgo-Glucksburgo, foi o Rei da Dinamarca de 1863 até 1906.
Foram modificados pelo Rei Cristiano IV, no dia 1 de dezembro de 1693, e mais tarde, em 1808 e 1958. Em 1958, passou a ser a concedida também às mulheres. Esta última modificação deve-se ao fato o Rei Frederico IX da Dinamarca, pai da atual Rainha da Dinamarca, não ter filhos varões para lhe suceder ao trono.
He was the first child of Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark and his wife Louise of Sweden. [2] His father was the eldest son of King Christian IX of Denmark and Louise of Hesse-Kassel, and his mother was the only daughter of King Charles XV of Sweden and Norway and Louise of the Netherlands.
