Civil disobedience is the active, professed refusal of a citizen to obey certain laws, demands, orders or commands of a government (or any other authority). By some definitions, civil disobedience has to be nonviolent to be called "civil". Hence, civil disobedience is sometimes equated with peaceful protests or nonviolent resistance.
A desobediência civil é um conceito que defende o desrespeito a uma lei por parte da população, se essa lei é vista como injusta. É uma forma que grupos minoritários, ou aqueles que não são ouvidos no processo político, encontram de participar dele e, portanto, é um instrumento que pode ser utilizado pelos cidadãos para garantir a sua cidadania.
