  1. Charles is an HTTP proxy / HTTP monitor / Reverse Proxy that enables a developer to view all of the HTTP and SSL / HTTPS traffic between their machine and the Internet. This includes requests, responses and the HTTP headers (which contain the cookies and caching information).

  5. Charles is an HTTP and SOCKS proxy server. Proxying requests and responses enables Charles to inspect and change requests as they pass from the client to the server, and the response as it passes from the server to the client.

  6. Getting Started. The best way to learn how to use Charles and to learn how it can help you is just to install it and see how it works. If you haven’t already please read the installation guide.

  7. With Charles 4 you can now see HTTP 2 working, and you can use all of your familiar tools; Repeat, Breakpoints, and so on. You’ll spot HTTP 2 hosts in Charles as they use a different icon—with a lightning bolt!
