Perched on the hilltop of State Street, this one-of-a-kind capitol building has been in service since the completion of construction in the late 1800s. The 122-meter-long, 91 meters wide, and 5-story tall building is made from mostly granite.
The New York State Capitol is open Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Highlights of our 45-minute tours can include the legislative chambers, Hall of Governors, Governor’s Reception Room, Hall of New York, historic staircases, and the recent Ruth Bader Ginsburg portrait carving. Tour access and route are subject to change.

Albany has a rich history dating back more than 400 years. When Henry Hudson arrived in 1609, the area was already home to the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) and the Dutch had established a trading post. In 1797, Albany became the official capital of New York State. Since then, Albany has been a center for banking, railroads, and international trade.
