In 1930 Huxley purchased a small house in Sanary, in southern France. It was here that he wrote one of his most celebrated volumes, Brave New World (1932), a negative utopia or “dystopia” that depicted a nightmarish vision of the future in which science and technology are used to suppress human freedom.
