In the multiplayer segment of BioShock 2, the player is able to become a Rosie by picking up a Big Daddy Suit. As a Big Daddy, the player has access to the Rosie's Rivet Gun and Proximity Mines, as well as the ability to perform a stomp which stuns nearby enemies.

The Alpha Series, a type of Big Daddy, was the first functional line of protectors to be bonded to Little Sisters and was the predecessor to all other Big Daddy models. They are introduced in BioShock 2 as a new type of enemy. Other types of functional Big Daddies include the Bouncer, Rosie, Rumbler, and Lancer (introduced in Minerva's Den ).
The Lancer is one of the five functional Big Daddies, introduced in the Minerva's Den downloadable content for BioShock 2. Its main weapon is the Ion Laser, and it can use an Ion Flash Attack to blind opponents. According to The Thinker, the Lancer is the most technologically advanced Big Daddy in Rapture .
