Leroy Gordon "Gordo" Cooper Jr. (Shawnee, 6 de março de 1927 — Ventura, 4 de outubro de 2004), foi um astronauta norte-americano e o mais jovem integrante do grupo de sete pilotos selecionados para o Projeto Mercury, o pioneiro programa espacial dos Estados Unidos criado em fins dos anos 1950.
Leroy Gordon Cooper Jr. (March 6, 1927 – October 4, 2004) was an American aerospace engineer, test pilot, United States Air Force pilot, and the youngest of the seven original astronauts in Project Mercury, the first human space program of the United States.
24 de jul. de 2023 · Biography. L. Gordon Cooper, Jr. Colonel Cooper was selected as a Mercury astronaut in April 1959. He piloted the “Faith 7” spacecraft which concluded the operational phase of Project Mercury. Cooper served as command pilot of the Gemini 5 mission. He served as backup command pilot for Gemini 12 and as backup commander for Apollo 10.
