Zach is a guitarist for the rock band The Neighbourhood whose best known for their debut album I Love You.. Abels and his fellow band members came together in 2011, he and the band released a debut EP called I'm Sorry... in May of 2012. The album featured their hit single Sweater Weather, which reached #1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart.

When he and two of his bandmates, singer Jesse Rutherford and co-guitarist Jeremy Freedman, began piecing together the elements for a darkly pretty tune called Sweater Weather, he felt like it had more than a little potential.
