WELLESLEY-POLE, WILLIAM, third Earl of Mornington in the peerage of Ireland and first Baron Maryborough of the United Kingdom (1763–1845), born at Dangan Castle on 20 May 1763, was the second son of Garrett Wellesley, first earl [q. v.], and the brother of the Marquis Wellesley and the Duke of Wellington.
At Eton, Wellesley was a ‘sound scholar’, but not as brilliant as his elder brother Richard.
