  6. William Paca was a lawyer, planter, and patriot who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776. He was born in Maryland in 1740 and had a family history of Quakerism and landowning. He studied law in Philadelphia and London, and served as a justice of the peace and a delegate in the provincial legislature. He died in 1799 at his Annapolis garden.
