30 de abr. de 2024 · Sir William Knollys, son of the puritan Sir Francis Knollys, was named High Steward of Banbury in the charter of 1608 and when created a peer in 1626 chose the title of Earl of Banbury. (fn. 282) Many notable figures in the town's history are mentioned elsewhere in this account.

The house, which was duly erected, (fn. n6) passed, on Knollys' death in 1596, to his eldest surviving son, Sir William Knollys, (fn. n7) from whose title of Viscount Wallingford it obtained the name of Wallingford House.
