Westcott House. The Clergy Training School, known since 1902 as Westcott House, owes its inception to B. F. Westcott (1825–1901). An active promoter of better theological training for Anglican ordinands, he, with Lightfoot, had supported the Ridley scheme until, in their words, it adopted a basis 'narrower than that of the National Church'.
Westcott House began its life in 1881 as the Cambridge Clergy Training School whose first president was the then Regius Professor of Divinity and later Bishop of Durham, Brooke Foss Westcott.
