Vere Brabazon Ponsonby, 9th Earl of Bessborough, GCMG, KStJ, PC (27 October 1880 – 10 March 1956), was an Anglo-Irish businessman and politician who served as Governor General of Canada, the fourteenth since Canadian Confederation.

14 de jan. de 2008 · Vere Brabazon Ponsonby, 9th Earl of Bessborough, governor general of Canada 1931-35 (b at London, Eng 27 Oct 1880; d at Stansted, Eng 10 Mar 1956). He was the only prominent British businessman ever to be governor general, and as such something of a surprise appointment.
Canada History. The 9th Earl Bessborough, a soldier, politician and businessman, because Canada's fourteenth Governor General. Born Vere Brabazon Ponsonby, on October 27th 1880, he received his education at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge.

Ponsonby inherited the earldom from his father in 1906, and on his death in 1920, his titles passed to his eldest son, Vere. His death procured an erroneous obituary of Lord Desborough being published after The Times confused the two peers.
