Thomas David Freeman-Mitford was born on 2 January 1909, the only son of David Freeman-Mitford, 2nd Baron Redesdale and his wife, Sydney Bowles. He was brother of the infamous Mitford sisters. Tom's birth was registered at St George, Hanover Sq. Tom was educated at Eton and during the Second World War served as Major in the Devonshire Regiment.
