To find a future husband for the delicate Princess Thyra became a project for Queen Louise. There were plenty of suitors courting the Princess but the Queen had a particular person in mind, Ernest August of Hanover, Duke of Cumberland. Duchess Thyra’s marriage to Ernest August gave her what she wanted the most: children.
Princess Thyra of Denmark (Thyra Louise Caroline Amalie Augusta Elisabeth; 14 March 1880 – 2 November 1945) was a member of the Danish royal family. She was the sixth child and third daughter of King Frederik VIII and Queen Louise of Denmark , and was also the younger sister of King Christian X of Denmark and King Haakon VII of Norway .
Princess Thyra (1853-1933) is said to have had a milder temperament than her sisters, and Christian IX later spoke of her as his “good daughter”. She received the title of Duchess of Cumberland when she in 1878 married Duke Ernst August, the former Crown Prince of Hanover.
