Description. Thornton Leigh Hunt was a journalist and editor, as well as a very close friend of George Henry Lewes, close enough that Lewes named his second child after him. In 1850, the two men co-founded a weekly newspaper, the Leader, to which George Eliot later contributed articles, often as substitutes for ones Lewes was slated to write.
Anne Gliddon (1807–1878) was a British artist and illustrator. She worked with graphite, ink, and watercolor, creating portraits and landscapes of British churches, almshouses, and distinctive houses as well as landscapes of South Australia. Her portraits have been published in books about Leigh Hunt and Thornton Leigh Hunt, her brother-in-law.
