  5. Biography. Thomas Cover was born on August 7th, 1938 in San Bernardino, California. He received his B.S. in physics from MIT in 1960 and received his M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford in 1961 and 1964, and joined the faculty at the Stanford School of Engineering.
