Thomas Carlyle, né le 4 décembre 1795 à Ecclefechan ( Eaglais Fheichein en gaélique écossais), dans le comté de Dumfries et Galloway, et mort le 5 février 1881 à Chelsea à Londres, est un écrivain, satiriste et historien écossais, dont le travail eut une très forte influence durant l' époque victorienne .
