Undated sketch of Daisy by John Singer Sargent. Born Mary Theresa Olivia Cornwallis-West at Ruthin Castle in Denbighshire, Wales, she was the daughter of Col. William Cornwallis-West (1835–1917) and his wife, Mary "Patsy" FitzPatrick (1856–1920). Her father was a patrilineal great-grandson of John West, 2nd Earl De La Warr.
Theresa Cornwallis West (née Whitby; 1806–1886) (Mrs F. West) was a British writer. She is most noted for her A Summer Visit to Ireland in 1846 and wrote stories for children, young adults and even a novel for adults ( The Doom of Doolandour ).

Biography: Theresa John Cornwallis West was born in 1806 in Newlands Manor, Hampshire, the daughter of Capt. John Whitby, R.N. In 1827 she married the widower Frederick Richard West (1799–1862) of Ruthin Castle, Denbighshire.
