El Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon) is located 13 kilometres (8 mi) west of San Pedro de Atacama, in the north of Chile in the Cordillera de la Sal, in the Atacama desert. It has various stone and sand formations which have been carved by wind and water.
13 km west of San Pedro de Atacama and 110 km SE of Calama, belonging to the Antofagasta region. Opening hours. Valle de la luna open all year round. From September to March. Moon Valley site entrance hours. Bicycles from 09:00 to 11:00 hrs. Motorized persons from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (people on foot cannot enter). Ckari sector entrance hours.
